Dear All

Lifelong Learning, Older People and Society Seminars

I have pleasure in listing details, below, of the Autumn Series of seminars.  Our first seminar takes place on Friday 26 September, when Mick Connell, Director of Adult Social Care and Health at Leicestershire County Council will be speaking on personalising adult social care.  As before the seminars are free but will take place in a different venue - the 4th floor of the Charles Wilson building, on the main University campus.

Please let Isobel know if you would like to attend on any of the dates.

With good wishes,

John

Professor John Benyon AcSS FRSA
Institute of Lifelong Learning
University of Leicester,
128 Regent Road,
Leicester, LE1 7PA

+++  26th September 2008 - Learning to Self-Direct
Mick Connell:  Leicestershire County Council
Personalising adult social care is one of the key challenges in social policy. Older people need to be at the forefront of this social movement and learning can help them get there.

+++ 31st October 2008 - Living and Learning: Exploring our Biological Roots
David James: Professor Emeritus, University of Surrey
An exploration of some of the fundamental biological and psychological issues facing our stone-age bodies and brains in our increasingly unnatural world.

+++  5th December 2008 - Effective Research = Older, Louder, Stronger
Una Lynch: Changing Ageing Partnership, Queen's University Belfast
Creating responsive public policy that protects and supports the rights of older people through research and active citizenship.

All seminars run from 11am to 1pm followed by a buffet lunch on the fourth floor of the Charles Wilson Building at the University of Leicester.

Please contact Isobel Woodliffe to reserve a place. Email: [log in to unmask] Tel: 0116 252 5914
