Yes, 4. Health and well-being will include physical changes through ageing.
For others on this list, Rosemary's thesis was about learning a new language at a later age. I am sure she will share it with you if you email her [off list please].

Thank you for still including me on this list. I am interested in your new course design. I wonder if 4. Health and well-being will include a breakdown of the known physical changes that occur through ageing?
5. Intergenerational issues and approaches looks very interesting as does 10 -Research - life narratives. (Please feel welcome to use my thesis here if you wish)
sincerely

Dear All
As is common when one starts off a new course, the first run is somewhat
experimental, and one often learns as much as one teaches. So I'd like to
tell
you how I'm thinking of changing the course curriculum for the second run.
This was the curriculum for the first course in Jan 2008:
SESSION 1 Contexts of mature learning
SESSION 2 Pedagogy for mature learners
SESSION 3 Psychological issues: cognition, physical or mental health,
and other factors.
SESSION 4 Demographic issues: population, changes, policies,
relevance of/to learning.
SESSION 5 Social workforce factors , policies, relevance of/to
learning.
SESSION 6 Gender issues; Health issues, relevance of and to later
learning.
SESSION 7 Choices in older learning:- self-fufilment, informal learning,
etc.
SESSION 8 The case for or against geragogy.
SESSION 9 Minority cultures;
SESSION 10 Learning different subjects, esp. ICT and e-learning.
This is my draft plan for the second course in Jan 2009:
1 Contexts of ageing demographic, socio-political
2 Psychology cognition, maturity and wisdom
3 Psychology motivation and goals [training, self-fulfilment, informal
learning,
etc.]
4 Health and well-being influence of ageing, influence on ageing
5 Special issues: gender, minority cultures
6 Pedagogy
7 Critical geragogy
8 ICT and e-learning
9 Intergenerational issues and approaches
10 Research: longitudinal studies, life narratives,...
The changes don't mean that the two runs will be covering different themes,
but that the emphasis has changed.
I'm keen to know whether you feel the new emphasis would be likely to
provide
more of the "answers" than the earlier one. Well - I'd like any
feedback you
want to give me, please.
Best wishes,
Anita
