Repository Software Developer
The Centre for e-Research at King's College London is seeking to appoint a full-time Repository Software Developer, who will work within a small development team, and reporting to the Software Development Manager. The repository will incorporate not only articles and papers, but also research data, complex research outputs, and digitised material from King's archives and special collections. The aim is not to produce a stand-alone system that simply manages data, but a repository that is fully integrated with the wider research infrastructure and research workflows across the College, including those that support strategic planning and monitoring of research outputs. The post-holder will thus be required to liaise with researcher staff, departments and schools, and will be involved with all aspects of our work, including the opportunity to develop new skills in a wider context.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Repository Software Developer will be:
* Evaluation of potential technologies and solutions, and making recommendations on the basis of this evaluation.
* Understanding functional and non-functional requirements.
* Transforming requirements into implementations, in accordance with the standards and principles followed at the Centre.
* Specification of repository architecture, web services and other software.
* Development, testing and documentation of services and other software.
* Liaison and collaboration with research staff and data/metadata specialists in various disciplines.
* Dissemination activities (e.g. workshops, conferences)
Details The ideal candidate will be a graduate with a relevant degree or equivalent (either computing science or with significant IT component). Expertise in Fedora repositories is essential. You must be thorough and methodical, able to work independently to tight deadlines, and have experience of planning and working in teams.
Salary Salary will be within the Grade 6 scale, currently £31,461 to £37,116 per annum (inclusive of London Allowance of £2,323 per annum) depending on skills and experience. Benefits include 27 days annual leave, an annual season ticket loan scheme, a final salary superannuation scheme and a subsidised gym.
