Senior GI Technical Specialist
Network Rail is looking for a Senior GI Technical Specialist, based in London
(NW1), to add value to their Information Management function.
Network Rail is investing £30 billion in the coming years to transform the
railway and create a network for the 21st Century and beyond. It will be a
huge feat of engineering, underpinned by world class Information Management
function. As Information Management, our purpose is to deliver World Class
information, technology and business solutions that add value across Network
Rail in the most cost-effective, efficient way. To achieve this, we aim to have
the right people, information, tools and services in place.
In this role you will provide a lead in the delivery of technical services provided
to meet Business objectives. You will work closely with internal and external
stakeholders to elicit and define the IM requirements relating to Geospatial
Information to solve a business problem and to perform GI-related business
analysis and development.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Act as a senior GI technical expert within IM providing direction and
input to the delivery of GI-related solutions.
2. Translate business requirements into GI solution designs that fit with
strategic direction and customer expectations
3. Provide technical assistance with the integration of proposed GI
solution designs with existing and proposed Network Rail and railway industry
technology platforms and data architectures
4. Provide technical expertise to support and develop strategic GI
Solutions
5. Direct third party resources to develop GI Solutions, clarifying
complex design issues
6. Elicit and specify the information flows, processes and data
structures that will meet the functional and non-functional requirements
behind a business problem or opportunity. Analyse options and produce an
unambiguous, complete and consistent requirements specification that
conforms to IM standards.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
Essential
· Professional qualification in GI/GIS or a closely related discipline
· Significant experience in successful GI solution design, development
(ArcObjects) or maintenance at a project/department lead consultant level
using ESRI technologies, including ArcGIS Server
· Experience in designing and developing web-based applications
(Java, Oracle)
· A good understanding of Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/D)
· Demonstrable experience in the use of related technologies (e.g.
Oracle, Oracle Spatial, SQL, Windows Advanced Server, HPUX, IIS)
· Expert in geospatial and relational database design, development or
implementation
· Experience of managing stakeholders and customers at a senior level
with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into simple business
language
Desirable
· Experience of using and managing Ordnance Survey MasterMap
products
· Project Management experience and qualification (e.g. APMP, Prince2)
· Membership of the Association of Geographic Information (AGI), or
another appropriate professional body
· Awareness of GI industry developments and how emerging GI
technologies can be applied within Network Rail and the railway industry
· Educated to Degree level
