British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme
The British Academy has issued a new call for applications for the
British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme, and we would be happy
to consider high quality proposals for disability research candidates at
Leeds in areas closely matched to our current research profile.
Suitable subjects for the Fellowship include any field of study within
the humanities or social sciences.
There are three groups of people who are directly eligible:
* British citizens
* anyone of whatever nationality who has obtained (or expects to
have obtained by 1 April 2008) a doctorate from a UK university
* EEA (European Economic Area) nationals (regardless of whether or
not they have a UK doctorate).
* It is unlikely that anyone who does not fall into one of these
categories will be accepted as eligible
* eligible applicants are expected to be at an 'early stage' of
their academic career. Early career is defined as being within a three
year period from the formal award of a doctorate
The British Academy requires that all applications must be
counter-signed by an appropriate member of staff at their proposed host
institution. It will be necessary for institutions to have plenty of
notice of the intention to submit an application, and there may be
internal deadlines ahead of the Academy's deadline for submission.
Contact with the host institution at the earliest possible opportunity
is very strongly recommended.
This scheme is designed to enable outstanding early career researchers
to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university
environment, which will develop their curriculum vitae and improve their
prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts by the end of the
Fellowship.
The selection process will be conducted over two stages. The deadline
for outline submissions is 1 October 2008 for awards to be taken up from
September 2009. Institutions are required to countersign outline
applications. Applicants will be notified of the outcome in January
2009, and those who successfully pass the initial selection stage will
be invited to submit full bids by the deadline of 28 February 2009.
Institutions are required to provide detailed information, including a
complete statement of support and the financial appendix showing Full
Economic Costs (FEC), only at this second stage. Awards will be
announced in May 2009.
