The Survivors History Group now meets in Manchester and London
The next London Meeting is on Tuesday 26.8.2008 11am-1.30 at Bunhill
Quaker Meeting House.
But the BIG event is in Manchester from Wednesday 10.9.2008 to Friday
12.9.2008 when we will be participating in the Asylum!
Conference and Festival on Elizabeth Gaskell Campus of Manchester
Metropolitan University.
Survivors History will be running an Exhibition and Information Stall
throughout the three days and running a workshop from
3.15 to 4.30 and 5.00-6.45 on the Wednesday. There may also be an
informal meeting (elsewhere) later on Wednesday evening.
A group booking is being made for the conference, with special reduced
rates for people who book through Survivors History. If you book through
us you could benefit from the reduced rate, or, alternatively, you could
help someone else to attend by paying a bit more. Reply to this email if
you want more information. We plan that members will not have to pay
anything for admission to the workshop/meeting on its own.
Provisional plans are for the exhibition to feature Manchester and
National Timelines - Anne Plumb's library and archive - Survivor History
badges - The Asylum index - Survivor Poetry of the 20th century -
Leaflets from Peter Campbell and others.
The provisional programme for meetings is
Wednesday 10.9.2008 - 3.15 to 4.30 and 5pm to late - Manchester
Recording Our Histories.
Survivors History Greater Manchester hosts an open meeting of the
Survivors History Group at the Asylum conference (below) to discuss
their work recording the history of mental health users/survivors and
their allies.
The meeting will focus on the work of the Greater Manchester history
group, but participants will also hear about the work of the national
group and there will be opportunities to discuss the development of
other regional histories.
After a break at 4.30, the meeting will be extended for those who wish
to stay on.

Discussion
The Survivors History Group has been very busy this year and this has
cost, and will cost, money as well as time. Most of the money has been
paid by individuals paying expenses from our own pockets. Our collective
budget is very small.
We believe that members who are better off will be pleased to help those
who are less able to pay, but who may be putting in a great deal of
time. We also believe that some of the organisations that support
positive images of mental health service users/survivors will be pleased
to help with the costs of the movement's history and archives. So we
have opened a bank account!
If you, or a group you belong to, could help us financially, donations
can be made as a cheque made out to "Survivors History Group", or as
unused stamps. Send to The Secretary, 177 Glenarm Road, London, E50NB.
If you include your address, we will send you one of our badges to say
thank you.
Best Wishes
Andrew (Secretary)
