We are pleased to invite you once again to participate in this premier annual event on research and applications of recommender technologies. Some details of the key highlights are provided below.
Keynote speaker Andrei Z. Broder (Fellow & VP Computational Advertising Yahoo! Research, USA) will give a talk on "Computational Advertising and Recommender Systems". The main part of this talk will give an introduction to computational advertising and present some illustrative research. In the second part he will discuss connections to recommender systems and present a couple of open problems of potential interest to both communities.
24 selected full papers will be presented at the main conference, covering themes such as: Social Networks and Recommenders, User Studies, Conversational Systems, Robust Recommenders, Collaborative Filtering, and Hybrid Systems. In addition, 18 further papers will be presented as short papers and or as posters/demos.
Also, the RecSys08 Doctoral Symposium provides an opportunity for doctoral students to explore and develop their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of distinguished research faculty.
The following tutorials will take place on the first day of the conference:
1) "Robust Recommender Systems" - Robin Burke
2) "Recent Progress in Collaborative Filtering" - Yehuda Koren
3) "Context-Aware Recommender Systems" - Gedas Adomavicius and Alex Tuzhilin
Of course, a major highlight at RecSys'08 will be the presentation of those projects that have been selected by Strands Inc. as the "best early stage project in the area of recommendation technologies". As part of RecSys08 five finalists have been invited to present their projects to the judging panel. The winner will be announced at the RecSys gala dinner and they will receive a $100,000 investment in the form of a convertible loan from Strands Inc.! Further details relating this are available at: http://recommender-startups.strands.com.
Full program details and practical information can be found at the RecSys'08 conference website http://recsys.acm.org. Looking forward to seeing you in Lausanne.
