Introduction
Web usability allows for the provision of a more effective, efficient and satisfying experience for the web user. Enhancing the web experience in such a way requires an interdisciplinary approach and a profound theoretical background. The web industry has realized that in order to achieve this quality, a user-centered approach is needed. User-centered design, however, constitutes a considerable paradigm shift in the traditional web development process and this shift has hindered the adoption of usability methods. Usability methods for the web, that is methods that enable or facilitate the development of usable systems for the web, can provide complementary results, thus it is important to examine the ways that these methods can be combined and integrated in the development process. This book works towards the composition of an extensive framework for applying usability methods to the web development process.
Objective of the Book
The book aims to provide a link between theoretical research and web engineering, thus presenting a more holistic approach to web usability. In doing so, the book is expected to offer new insights on the application of methods that enable or facilitate the development of usable web systems. In order to facilitate the composition of a comprehensive methodological framework for the development of usable web systems, the book will cover issues regarding the theoretical framework of web usability, integration of usability methods when designing for the web, and the definition of parameters that enable the appraisal of usability methods.
Target Audience
The intended book audience includes academics and researchers in the area of computer science and all the complementary to HCI disciplines, web practitioners and usability experts. Practitioners are expected to submit their experiences from the application of usability methods in their web projects. Moreover, because the book covers extensively topics regarding the integration of usability in the software development process, it can provide some very valuable insights to all the stakeholders in the development of a web system, such as project managers and other executives.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before September 5, 2008 a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter, together with a tentative title and chapter organization. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by September 12, 2008 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October 31, 2008. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the "Information Science Reference" (formerly Idea Group Reference) and "Medical Information Science Reference" imprints.
