* About HIIT and UIx
The Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT conducts
world-class research on future information technology. Its research
ranges from fundamental methods and technologies to novel applications
and their impact on people and society. HIIT's key competences are in
Internet architecture and technologies, mobile and human-centric
computing, user-created media, analysis of large sets of data, and
probabilistic modeling of complex phenomena. HIIT is multidisciplinary,
with scientists from behavioural and social sciences, as well as
humanities, design, and art, complementing skills in computer science
and information and communication technologies. HIIT is a joint research
institution of Helsinki University of Technology TKK and the University
of Helsinki (UH).
Ubiquitous Interaction (UIx) research group couples human-computer
interaction studies with interaction design in the area of novel
interfaces (mobile, ubiquitous, multimodal, mixed reality). Research
cycles iterate basic user research with ethnographies or
quasi-experiments, interaction design through idea generation and
prototyping, and critical evaluation through field trials in real
settings. We offer:
- highly motivating international projects
- state of the art technology in wireless sensing, mobile, and
ubiquitous computing
- highly collaborative, user oriented, and multidisciplinary environment
(our researchers have degrees in design, art, computer science,
psychology, anthropology, and cognitive science)
- close collaboration with key industry players and international
research groups
- excellent publication track in HCI, ubicom and related fields
- large-scale user trials in real settings.
