To all BACS members
Giles Blackburne and myself have recently launched this Association, affiliated to BACS, which is open to anyone who has a minimum of UG degree level (or alternatively HSK level 6 or above, or FCO extensive level) in Chinese as a second language.
Our stated objectives are:-
* To provide networking opportunities for speakers of Chinese as a second language who are using or would like to use their skills in professional settings
* To publicise opportunities for further professional development via short top-up language courses or Masters degrees offered by universities and colleges
* To create on-going links between Chinese departments and graduates who are using their language skills at work
* To provide links between potential employers and members possessing a certified level of Chinese language
* To provide outreach activities which promote the study of Chinese in schools and universities
* To act as a lobbying organization in order to raise the currency of Chinese language skills
Any BACS members who are eligible are very welcome to join. Please see our website, www.chinesespeakers.org <http://www.chinesespeakers.org> , for more details. To join us, click on the links under the membership tab. Membership is free of charge. We already have over 100 members based mainly either in the UK or in East Asia and are sponsored by the Enterprise and Innovation Fund at Leeds, the White Rose East Asia Centre, the China Britain Business Council, and Tsingtao Beer. Our official launch reception will coincide with the BACS conference on 4th September in Leeds.
Apologies for any cross-posting -- do feel free to pass the word to anyone else you know who may be interested.
Thanks and best wishes
Frances Weightman and Giles Blackburne
