On Wednesday the 10 September 2008 - we have arranged for a trainer from
Harwell Document Restoration Service to visit us at HBOS Group Archives,
Edinburgh to give us a day's training session on disaster planning and
recovery.
The training will run from about 10.00-4.30 and will cover/include the
following:
An introduction to disaster recovery;
Salvage techniques (i.e. handling guidelines, types of damage,
stabilisation methods, air-drying/freeze-vacuum drying, restoration options)
A minor incident scenario. Participants work in teams to salvage a
quantity of water-damaged photographic materials. Triage assessment,
setting-up air-drying etc.
Practical disaster recovery:- managing minor and major incidents,
appreciation of scale, health and safety, service continuity; effective
management of disasters
A major incident scenario (desk-top exercise), providing a scenario
(usually major fire, with associated water-damage) which groups of staff work
on for 30 minutes, deciding upon their plan of action prior to the building being
handed over by the fire brigade.
We have a couple of extra spaces available on this training, so if you are
interested in joining us for the day in Edinburgh, please drop me an e-mail -
[log in to unmask] by Friday (29 Aug). There will be no charge for
participation but you will need to bring along your lunch.
