The Paul Scherrer Institute is a centre for multi-disciplinary
research and one of the world’s leading user laboratories. With its
1300 employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss
ETH domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and
materials sciences, elementary particle physics, energy and
environmental research as well as biology and medicine.
The Swiss Light Source (SLS) is one of the most advanced radiation
sources worldwide and operates two high performance undulator beam
lines for protein crystallography and a state-of-the-art bending
magnet beamline. The Macromolecular Crystallography group is now in
the planning phase of a new crystallization facility to be built next
to/and which will work in concert with the bending magnet beamline in
an automated fashion, while the PSI Structural Biology group has
recently implemented a high throughput platform for protein production
and crystallization.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics
Your tasks
==========
To develop a data tracking software which will allow a maximum of
flexibility in the investigation of the cause-effect relationships
across the pipeline of the combined high-throughput gene-to-structure
platform and automated plate screening crystallization facility and
beamline. You will work closely with both the Structural Biology and
Beamline group in the integration of the devices with the software in
order to maximize the extraction of all relevant information from the
execution of the automated processes.
Your profile
============
You hold a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biology or physics and have a
very strong background in computational science and are very
proficient in the Java programming language.
Previous experience in protein purification, crystallization and
crystallography is a plus. If you are a good team player with fine
communication and organizational skills and sense of responsibility,
this position will offer a great opportunity for you to develop your
research career in an exciting and highly multidisciplinary environment.
The contract will be for 2 years.
