The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre is a leader in clinical trials research
coordinating and conducting multi-centre and multinational clinical trials
involving pharmacological, non-pharmacological or community-based
interventions and promoting evidence-based medicine in Australia. At the
Clinical Trials Centre, research staff put into practice multi-disciplinary
approaches for cancer, cardiovascular and other trials research.
The Clinical Trials Centre is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced
Biostatistician to contribute to the overall research effort of a team of
nine biostatisticians, as well as the broader research interests of the
Centre. The successful applicant will be responsible for the development of
new teaching courses for both face-to-face and distance education.
This is an exceptional opportunity to gain exposure to teaching in
postgraduate courses in statistics through the Biostatistics Collaboration
of Australia as well as various internal and external short courses
conducted by the Clinical Trials Centre. The successful applicant will also
be exposed to opportunities for teaching in the University's graduate
medical program and other postgraduate courses including Masters of Public
Heath and Master of Clinical Epidemiology.
The successful applicant will require solid expertise in clinical trials
methods, including randomisation and statistical management, coupled with
experience in biostatistical analysis and research in a number of clinical
areas. Experience in methodological aspects of systematic reviews,
meta-analysis and general biostatistical methods will be essential, as will
proven leadership ability to direct small teams of researchers, and to
liaise with a diverse range of potential clients.
Furthermore, the successful applicant will possess superior verbal and
written communication skills and analytical problem-solving skills to
identify problems, and coordinate the implementation of appropriate
solutions to instigate continuous improvement. Knowledge of a range of
statistical packages and experience in cardiovascular or oncology research
will be highly advantageous, as will a demonstrated ability to conduct
research and promote biostatistical consulting.
The position is full-time fixed term for twelve months subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership
of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment
for new appointees.
Remuneration package Research Level B: up to $86,731 - $102,993 p.a. pro
rata (which includes a base salary $73,289 - $87,030 p.a., leave loading and
up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
Remuneration package Research Level C: up to $106,243 - $122,395 p.a. pro
rata (which includes a base salary $89,777 - $103,519 p.a., leave loading
and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
Level of appointment and responsibility will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience. A market loading of up to 30% is also
available and will be negotiated with the preferred candidate depending on
qualifications and experience.
