Call for Special Sessions, Tutorials and Competitions

==============================================================================
IEEE Symposium on
Computational Intelligence and
Data Mining 2009 (CIDM’09)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part of the 2009 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (SSCI’09)
Nashville, Tennessee, USA
March 30 - April 2, 2009
==============================================================================

The 2009 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Data Mining (IEEE CIDM 2009, at http://www.ieee-ssci.org/) solicits proposals for special activities within the technical scope of the symposium, focusing on a special session, tutorial presentation, software presentation or competition of computational intelligence (CI) in Data Mining (DM).

Call for Special Sessions
CIDM’09 invites proposals for special sessions, to be organized by internationally recognized experts, which aim to bring together researchers in special focused topics in DM. Papers submitted to special sessions will be peer-reviewed with the same criteria used for the contributed papers. Special session proposals should include the session title, a brief description of the scope and relevance to CI and DM, a list of potential authors who might submit papers to the special session, and brief bios of the special session organizers.

Call for Tutorials
CIDM’09 invites proposals for tutorials covering fundamental and advanced topics on DM. A tutorial proposal should include title, outline, relevance to CI and DM, expected enrollment, and presenter biography. Tutorial proposal will be evaluated on its relevancy to the theoretical foundations and practical applications to computational intelligence and data mining research fields.

Call for Competitions
CIDM’09 invites proposals for the organisation of competitions to stimulate and disseminate research in CI and DM, promote fair evaluations of methods and applications, and to attract and engage academic, practitioners and students. A proposal should include a description of the problem addressed, motivation and expected impact regarding CI and DM, data description, evaluation procedures and established baselines, schedule, anticipated number of participants, and biographic information of the main team members.

Proposal Submission
Experts interested in organizing a special activity should submit a proposal in pdf format via email to: [log in to unmask] by September 21, 2008. Informal enquiries before the submission deadline are welcome.

Important Dates
September 21, 2008 Special activities proposals due
October 31, 2008 Paper submissions due
November 30, 2008 Notification to authors
January 15, 2009 Camera-ready papers due

About the IEEE CIDM’09 Conference
IEEE CIDM’09 will be held simultaneously with 20 other symposia in one location at the IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence 2009 (IEEE SSCI’09). This international event promotes all aspects of the theory and applications of computational intelligence. Sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, this event will attract top researchers, professionals, practitioners and students from around the world. The registration, which will allow participants to attend any session in any technical meeting, will also include the complete set of the proceedings of all the meetings, coffee breaks, lunches, and the banquet. The event will be held in the magical town of Nashville, Tennessee, USA, the city of country music, from March 30 - April 2, 2009.

IEEE CIDM’09 will bring together scientists, engineers and students from around the world to discuss the latest advances in the field of CI applied to issues in DM. This conference will provide a forum for the presentation of recent results in data mining algorithms, applications, software and data mining systems.

Some of the topics covered include applications of computational intelligence technologies, such as neural networks, graphical models and fuzzy systems for data modeling and data understanding, new approaches for handling uncertainty, evolutionary computation and other emerging optimization techniques in the following or similar areas:
· CI/probabilistic/statistical/machine learning and other methods
• Data understanding, rule extraction, logical models
• Feature extraction, selection, aggregation, construction
• Multimedia data mining
• Mining of signals and data streams
• Mining spatial and spatio-temporal data
• Mining of very large datasets, scalability
• Text, graph and web mining
• Meta-learning, predictive data mining
• Visual data mining
• Case studies.
• Applications to biometrics, biomedicine, chemistry, drug design, e-commerce, engineering, finance and marketing research, intelligence, industry, remote sensing, scientific data mining, security, sensory networks and others.

We look forward to welcoming you in Nashville!
