Lisa
Visitor Services Assistants - Wellcome Collection
Full and part time posts available £15,500-£17,500
The Wellcome Trust is the largest charity in the UK. It funds innovative
biomedical research, in the UK and internationally, with the aim of improving
human and animal health.
Wellcome Collection, located opposite Euston Station in London, is a major
public venue for the Wellcome Trust. Just entering its second year of opening
it is part gallery, part museum, an extraordinary library, café and much more.
It takes a thoughtful and experimental look at medicine, life and art, rooting
science in the broad context of health and wellbeing.
Due to the success of our opening year we are expanding visitor services and
are currently recruiting staff to join our enthusiastic team. You will ensure all
visitors have an enjoyable and safe visit, staff the galleries and information
point, assist with events and tour guiding, provide an interpretative role for
visitors and encourage interaction with the exhibits. You will therefore need to
demonstrate:
- experience in a visitor focused environment, ideally a museum, gallery or
similar;
- commitment to high standards in customer care, excellent communication
skills with the ability to lead guided tours and work as part of a team;
- demonstrable enthusiasm for the content and subject areas of Wellcome
Collection;
- a good general level of education.
In addition, a second language, experience of being a first aider and/or a fire
marshall would be advantageous but are not essential.
You’ll be required to cover opening hours including weekdays, weekends, bank
holidays and some evenings, as well as be willing to work additional hours
occasionally to ensure full staffing of the galleries. Due to the nature of the
work, a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check will be required prior to
appointment.
Hours: Full and part time
Application deadline: noon on 1 August 2008
Interviews start: w/c 11 August 2008
