Nothing substantial, a sketch for a poem.
DOG-BACK
In the heat of the afternoon
he sleeps on the floor on his side,
and when the deep breathing stops
the breaths come shallow
his legs begin to move
and we know he is dreaming
of what, of where, of how long ago
when he inhabits his own ancestor
who once ran the forests
runs at last toward his dreams

"I have been watching you; you were there, unconcerned perhaps, but with the strange distraught air of someone forever expecting a great misfortune, in sunlight, in a beautiful garden."--Arkel to Melisande, Maurice Maeterlinck, "Pelleas et Melisande"
