Dear Jim,
Your mention Taylor's Shaft, Moonta, might this be as a result from mgt. or
involvement of John Taylor & Sons?
Regards, Bernard
Hello Bernard,
I received this from Peter Bell in Australia.
The Moonta Mining Company usually named its shafts after the company
directors. I think Taylor's shaft was named after John Taylor, a South Australian
sheep grazier and prominent mining investor. (Most of the major shareholders
of the Moonta and Wallaroo companies were big landholders in the sheep
industry.)
Also John Taylor was an agent for the company and supposedly was the man who
beat out a syndicate in filing the claim for the Moonta property.
I hope this helps,
Jim Besleme
