Dear Eva,
The more I read your answers, the more I feel that this is really an exploratory study that would be best undertaken using a qualitative semi-structure approach. Your objective seems to be to have an idea of what women think the cause of preterm labour may be, so that at a second point in time, you may be able to use this information to address the issue of prevention and target a policy that will address what is known about prevention, but bearing in mind the ideas harboured by women in Namibia. I presume that these ideas may vary from the evidence presently available and that you may then wish to target public health education programmes to correct misperceptions. For this reason, I would suggest that either in-depth interviews or much more structured questionnaires/interviews would probably be more useful. I would presume that the methodology may be partly suggested by the level of literacy in the population that you want to survey.
Best wishes
Marianne

There are no right or wrong answers. What I would like to find out is how do they understand Preterm Labour- its causes and preventory measures so that in Namibia we will have a clue of where to strenghten in an attempt to reduce pretem labour. Our rate stands at 3.9% within a population of 1.8 million people.

Can I raise a question related to the questionnaire designed to ask
women in Namibia about their knowledge about the causes of preterm
birth. Do we know what the 'correct' answers are?
Best wishes, Alison
