I don't recall Google Trends being mentioned on this list but it offers
the option to compare unique visitors across sites.
See http://trends.google.com/websites?q=www.sciencemuseum.org.uk%
2Cwww.nhm.ac.uk%2Cwww.vam.ac.uk&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 for an example.
Seb Chan's excellent mini workshop at MW2008 in Montreal gave a measured
review of the pros and cons of all the various different website metrics.

More recently at UKMW we heard from Tom Loosemore how the BBC use the
measure 'how likely you are to recommend a friend' model.
With webstats we end up with a bunch of numbers such as unique visitors...
then we then have to figure out what we're going to do with them. A better
approach would be to decide what you want to know and use whatever tools
or combinations of methods ie. stats, surveys etc to get near the answers.
