We currently only have one Wiley title as such and have been advised that our annual spend means we could not have an Enhanced Access Licence for that title. Therefore we are unable to access any usage statistics for that online Wiley title. We do not have a print subscription to that title.

I am still not clear what is actually happening to the Blackwell data for July and August 2008 - looking at the sentence "Our intention is that usage data for the period January 2008 to June 2008 for Blackwell titles will be available from Wiley InterScience in September 2008" this would seem to imply that there won't be any data for July and August. For the first week in July our access has been curtailed in any case.

I have been advised that a service such as Ebsco EJS may enable us to access some statistics, but in our situation at this library, with multiple networks and user access possibilities, that really doesn't help as Ebsco EJS is not a suitable solution. I really think our only viable option may be to cancel subscriptions and resort to interlibrary loans.

Paula.

Wiley has promised to deliver Blackwell statistics, independent of whether you had a premium or a standard subscription.

cf.
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/aboutus/wiley-blackwell/transition.html

What's going to happen to the usage data for Blackwell journals?
From August onwards usage data for Blackwell journals will be available on Wiley InterScience. This will be presented in a separate report but in the same format as that offered for Wiley journals. Our intention is that usage data for the period January 2008 to June 2008 for Blackwell titles will be available from Wiley InterScience in September 2008.
Blackwell usage data for the period January 2006 to December 2007 will be made available through Wiley InterScience later in 2008. Blackwell usage data for the period prior to December 2005 will no longer be available after the transition in June 2008. We will not be migrating this data across to Wiley InterScience.

We will continue to support the separate sales models for Blackwell and Wiley journals in 2008 and therefore all Blackwell online journal customers are entitled to access their usage data. Wiley customers licensed under the Basic Access License will continue to not be entitled to usage data for 2008. Usage data for Wiley journals is available to customers with the Enhanced Access License in 2008.

Furthermore, at a meeting of the Konwledge Exchange group in Bonn we have been told that from 2009 on, we will receive COUNTER statistics for all Wiley/Blackwell titles irrespective of the type of license (or may be, there no longer will be different types of licenses, I am not sure about pricing and access models for non-consortial customers), independent of whether the customer is in a consortium or otherwise has negotiated and paid for an enhanced access license or not) .

This is what we have always demanded: that any electronic access for journals we are buying must come with basic usage statistics as required by the COUNTER code of practice. Anything else would be against the spirit if not the letter of COUNTER, and - after Elsevier has tossed its ScienceDirect web editions - Wiley was in fact the only bona fide COUNTER compliant publisher left who sold subscriptions (even e-only subs) without providing usage statistics if you did not buy into an enhanced access license. This will be history from 2009 on.

Best regards,
Bernd-Christoph
