With apologies for cross posting
As of 1st August 2008, SAGE will support access to SAGE Journals Online via Shibboleth (federated access management).
In practical terms the advantage of using Shibboleth is that an authenticated network user may access online resources, both locally and externally, using a single sign on procedure. In addition, Shibboleth ensures security whilst protecting user privacy.
Shibboleth is one of several access control methods available for institutions using SAGE Journals Online. The other methods will continue to be available to users and include access via:
- IP Address
- Public username/password
- Athens
The process for accessing SAGE Journals Online via Shibboleth is straightforward. To set up access to your subscribed content via Shibboleth for your institution please go to http://online.sagepub.com, click "Account Manager" and follow the on-screen prompts. You will need to login with your administrator username/password and have the following details to hand:
- Scope (e.g. warwick.ac.uk). This is usually a domain and must match against the part after the @ sign in the EduPersonScopedAffiliation value.
- Scoped Affiliations which should have access. This is the part before the @ sign in the EduPersonScopedAffiliation value. The default will be student, staff, faculty, employee, member.
- Federation. Initially, this will be the UK Access Management Federation. We may add support later for other federations, depending on demand.
Should you have any queries, please click the "Contact Us" link at SAGE Journals Online or email [log in to unmask]
