Hi all,
I'm working on setting up a new clinical teams outreach librarian service at Macclesfield Hospital and have just had an interesting meeting with one of our practice development people. He suggested the idea of creating a generic model of the various stages involved in implementing evidence-based practice and clinical librarian usage within a team: something you could point to and say..."We're here now with department X, but we'd like to be here".
I think in practice it would be something like this:
Stage 1: Information searching on an ad-hoc basis; search skills very variable within the team; changes in practice arise through external pressure; limited library use.
Up to...
Stage n: Evidence-based practice is part of the culture of the department; staff confident in searching; clinical librarian well embedded within team; library services well used.
My question is: has anyone heard of or developed anything like this before?
Thanks,
Tom
