**Apologies for cross-posting**
Dear All
This is a reminder to all of you that are planning on using OpenAthens
for access to licensed resources post 1st August 2008. OpenAthens is
compatible with the UK federation and will get you access to the number
of Service Providers that have chosen to adopt a federation-compliant
only route and not to have an native Athens interface on their site.
However, it is absolutely essential that you complete the simple step of
joining the UK federation and declaring Eduserv as your outsourced
identity provider for this to be possible. Information on how to
complete this can be found here:
http://www.ukfederation.org.uk/content/Documents/OutsourcedProvider.
Currently, only a third of institutions that have declared their
intention to use OpenAthens here:
http://www.athensams.net/federations/openathens/organisations have
completed this process with the UK federation. For the organisations
that haven't , this could mean loss of access to services on 1st August
2008. It should also be noted that due to the complexity in nature
of the outsourcing process, it takes a significantly longer period of
time to process these registrations than direct institutional
registrations.
If you are intending to use OpenAthens and have not registered this
intention with the UK federation, can we please urge you to do so as a
matter of priority. For more information please do not hesitate to
contact me or my team: [log in to unmask]
Kind regards
Nicole Harris
