Allegory in Theory and Practice
University of Toronto, October 17-18, 2008
Co-sponsored by the Department of Italian Studies of the University
of Toronto and the Dipartimento di Filologia e Critica della
Letteratura of the University of Siena, this conference aims to bring
together scholars interested in revisiting the concept of allegory in
theory, history, and application. The scope of the conference is
interdisciplinary. Papers may be in English or Italian. The
conference organizers seek paper proposals expanding on the following
themes:
1. Allegory and literary theory
2. Allegory as a mode of thought
3. Historiography and the allegory of history
4. Visual allegory
5. Allegories of the classical tradition
6. Medieval and Renaissance allegory
7. Baroque allegory
8. Allegory in modern and contemporary literature
9. Allegory in popular culture
10. Allegory in drama and performance
11. Allegory in cinema
