Can you imagine what the situation will be like in schools over the
years as autism (the rate is now 1 in 150 children) and other
behaviour disorders increase? I agree with two comments in that
article, "...questioned whether mainstreaming has gone too far..." and
"...It's damned if you do, damned if you don't..." Schools and
teachers are ill-prepared to handle an ever increasing population of
students with disabilities in their classrooms, especially if there's
not enough teacher assistants. The disturbing incidents described in
the news article are becoming more prevalent, and there does not seem
to be any right answers or solutions.
