PhD Studentship Available:
Communication in Training for Healthcare.
The PHANTOM Project at King's College London invites applications for a
PhD studentship funded by the ESRC's Teaching and Learning Research
Programme. The studentship will be based in the Work, Interaction and
Technology research centre (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/wit).
This successful candidate will conduct research on communication in
healthcare training in order to:
- generate a body of empirical findings and conceptual distinctions
concerning the practices and problems associated with communicating
manual skills in training contexts;
- develop and assess video-based field methods for the study of training;
- produce recommendations for the design and deployment of advanced
simulators and technologies to support training.
The studentship includes full payment of fees and a 3-4 year maintenance
grant (depending upon previous qualifications) (currently in the region
of £14,600 tax-free per annum). The studentship is planned to begin in
October 2008.
Applicants must have a 1st class or upper 2nd class honours degree, or
masters in a social science or other relevant discipline. The successful
candidate should preferably have some experience of ethnography,
ethnomethodology and/or conversation analysis. Applicants should be UK
residents, or EU residents who have lived in the UK for over three years.
