Dear Colleagues
Please see below a Press Release from the University of Guyana. Judaman was a friend and colleague of mine when I worked at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. He came late to academia and accomplished a great deal in the short time he was involved in academic life. He passed away two years ago. His publisher, Peepal Press, has committed to publishing a manuscript he had written on Guyanese Politics and it should be available towards the end of this year. I will forward information about the book when it is published. As you will see below, his work and legacy continues with The Seecomar Trust.
best wishes
Amanda

Press Release
The Berbice Campus, University of Guyana, is pleased to announce the receipt of three barrels of books from the estate of the late Dr Olivier Judaman Seecoomar of the United Kingdom. Those of us who knew him will remember with both fondness and regret his two-year heroic struggle with cancer and eventual passing in March 2006.
We are delighted that the family/estate has selected the Campus as the beneficiary of his work and contribution to Guyanese scholarship. His book, Contributions Towards the Resolution of Conflict in Guyana, is the first full length study of the conflicts that afflict Guyanese society and the monumental task ahead – if it is to ever come to terms with them. In addition, he was not hesitant to pen his name to public declarations that sought to initiate dialogue and bring a modicum of sanity to what appears as an increasingly hopeless situation. In this, he was unyielding and his passing came as his publisher was planning the release of another volume: Democratic Advance and Conflict Resolution in Post Colonial Guyana
In the interest of pursuing the work of the late Dr Seecoomar the family/estate has established The Seecoomar Trust in the UK with the specific purpose of advancing education in Guyana.
The campus is particularly pleased with the gesture since it would assist in continuing the work that began with the Clark-Atlanta University/University of Guyana Project on Conflict Analysis and Resolution. While one volume (edited by the late Prof Grant and Dr Mark Kirton) has already appeared from the project another is on its way and likely to be out by late July.
Finally, we would like to thank the Seecoomar family for their generosity and thoughtfulness and are pleased with their long-term commitment to the memory and scholarship of the late Dr Judaman Seecoomar.
