Randolph
Thanks so much for brilliant report back. I must be there in 2009.
Also, what I enjoy is the way you've written this report: for poet,
academic, student and everyman/woman.
Best, Rupert

I underestimated how long it would take me to drive to Cork so
unfortunately I missed Trevor Joyce’s and Mark Weiss’ readings at 4 pm.
Perhaps someone else could report on them.
However, I got to the opening of the exhibition at the Black Mariah
gallery, located just above Plugd Records on Washington Street. Trevor
Joyce sent me some photos which I’ll upload to www.wildhoneypress.com
<http://www.wildhoneypress.com/> in due course.
Fergal Gaynor had set up a DVD playing a loop of videos of previous
readings and videos of texts, including one by Geoffrey Squires _Texts
for Screen_ which can be viewed at
http://www.youtube.com/user/wildhoneypress
Maggie O’Sullivan read at the opening. The room was packed and we sat on
the floor as two texts were distributed to us. The first was a photocopy
of a disoriented collage/palimpsest where a text/texts had been torn and
stuck down on another text then overwritten, circled and underlined in
black and red pens. The usual march of words from left to right and of
lines from top to bottom was completely disrupted. Maggie began reading
and we were invited to join in. Which we did with pleasure.
The second text had the heading “Introduction of sound:/ Introduction:
of sight / Introduction: of texture” followed by a block of single words
separated by full stops with a general focus on arthropods and plants.
Again, Maggie led as we followed in non-canonical epicycles, Maggie’s
voicing providing the kind of articulation syntax can only dream of.
Later there was wine, which rumour had it was left over from Fergal’s
and Marja’s wedding.
Tom Pickard, Mark Weiss, Maggie and I had an animated discussion about
stationery conducting a minimax analysis of notebooks along the
dimensions of looks, size (linebreaks v portability) and cost.
You can see Maggie talking about pens (there’s no i in pens) here:
