There is still time to book a place on the 'Teaching Statistics through
a problem-solving approach' half-day workshop on Monday 1 September
prior to the RSS 2008 Conference in Nottingham.
The workshop will be presented by Jenny Freeman (University of
Sheffield) and Philip Sedgwick (St George's, University of London)
The aim of this workshop will be to brainstorm, develop ideas and
produce a template for creating resources for teaching statistics using
a problem solving approach through other subjects.
RSS 2008 Conference provides an opportunity to bring researchers and
practitioners together to summarise the latest developments in this area
with a view to producing some guidelines for good practice in creating
resources for teaching statistics by solving problems in a range of
subjects.
The workshop leaders are teachers of statistics from what were
traditionally viewed as serviced subject departments.
Potential outputs from the workshop are embryonic resources for
participants to use in their own classes.
For information about registering for the workshop please visit
http://www.rss.org.uk/main.asp?page=2960 - you do not need to attend the
main conference in order to register for the workshop.
The workshop and conference will take place at the East Midlands
Conference Centre on the campus of the University of Nottingham.
