For comparability we tend to stick to the ones used by UCAS for students:
00 = no disability
01 = Dyslexia / other SpLDs
02 = Blind / partially sighted / visually impaired
03 = Deaf / hearing impaired / hard of hearing
04 = Wheelchair user / mobility or dexterity impairment
05 = used to be "personal care", no longer in use
06 = Mental health issues
07 = Unseen disability (chronic medical condition e.g. epilepsy, diabetes,
asthma)
08 = Multiple disabilities (i.e. any two or more of the above)
09 = Other disabilities not listed above
10 or T = Autism spectrum disorders e.g. Asperger's syndrome
The categories are, as always, debateable, but they function about as well
as anything. An alternative would be to borrow the categories used in the
annual Labour Force Surveys.
