Hi everyone!
I did post earlier a question concerning bedpostx, WMware and
CPU total usage ( http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?
A2=ind0807&L=FSL&P=R21499&X=61A6925D1CC4775040&Y=joyce%
40jikei.ac.jp ).
What I wanted was to make VMware Player use more than 25% (= 1
CPU) of the total CPU usage of my 4 core PC. I tried to assign
more than 1 CPU to VMware on the windows task manager, I tried
to change the FSLvm5_32.vmx file setting 2 CPUs ... but nothing
worked
... until I did the simplest thing: install 3 different VMware
Players on my PC. (In windows, go to "my virtual machines",
copy-paste-rename the folder FSLvm32. When opening VMware
Player, you can now open the FSLvm32x.vmx that you want).
Now, each VMware Player uses 25% of the total CPU which means
that in total I can use 75% of the ressources of my PC.
This will not parallelise processes, but when running several
bedpostx at the same time (my case), the whole thing is 3 times
faster.
If you opt for this solution, do not forget to lower the memory
allocation in each of your VMware Players! (see end of this
page: http://www.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/fsl/windows.html )
I hope this helps someone,
Peace,
Joyce!
