Sensory Statistician Salary: £30,000 to 40,000

Main purpose of the role
* To develop and maintain the statistical and analytical capability of the sensory programme at leading edge levels for the industry
* To provide an expert consultancy for scientists in other functions and platforms
* To provide expert data analysis for the sensory scientists in the sensory and malodour research platforms
Main Responsibilities of the role:
* Advises the head of sensory as to best practices and how to implement them efficiently and effectively. Together with the head of sensory creates and implements a road map for the development of leading edge capability for the industry.
* Ability to translate business needs into implemented programmes that provide timely, pragmatic solutions, often against a background of complex (and conflicting) business needs.
* Able to operate as an independent expert with minimal supervision to produce leading edge solutions in a creative environment. Capable of developing new approaches to increase quality and productivity of departmental output. Capable of identifying new customer and consumer opportunities and developing tailored approaches to satisfy them.
* Supports the training of colleagues in basic statistics to increase the overall effectiveness of the whole department.
* Pro-actively works to build and foster a multi-disciplinary team approach to projects and problem solving.
* Reports own work and literature developments providing overviews and insights for colleagues to drive strategy and capability development.
Necessary Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
* A degree in statistics/chemometrics, with further experience or research leading to an MSc or PhD
* Comfortable and experienced working within SAS and also SPSS or similar packages
* Experience with handling multivariate data and modelling would also be highly advantageous
* Familiar with statistical packages such as XLStat and programming languages such as Visual Basic
