Hepatitis C Programme, Health Protection Scotland Permanent Posts Agenda for
Change Band 7: £29,091 to £38,352
Health Protection Scotland works in partnership to deliver health protection
services which enable and support a safer and healthier Scotland. The
functions of HPS include monitoring and surveillance, emergency response,
research and development, and coordination of national health protection
activities.
HPS has been given responsibility for co-ordinating and evaluating the
implementation of the Scottish Government's Hepatitis C Action Plan.
The development, analysis and reporting of a comprehensive programme of
surveillance and research on Hepatitis C is essential to provide a firm
evidence base for evaluating past/current, and targeting new, services.
We are seeking three epidemiologists to undertake surveillance and research
relating to the implementation and evaluation of the Hepatitis C Action Plan
for Scotland. New surveillance initiatives will be developed to determine
the effectiveness of Hepatitis C-related services in terms of (i) the
prevention of Hepatitis C among injecting drug users, (ii) the testing and
diagnosis of Hepatitis C among individuals at risk of infection, and
(iii) the treatment and care of Hepatitis C infected individuals. The
epidemiologists will lead on the design and implementation of specific
surveillance and research projects and will have responsibility for the
management and analysis of information and generation of reports/ scientific
papers on these projects.
The post holder will be educated to degree level in a science related
subject, with a postgraduate qualification (e.g. PhD, MPH, MSc) in a
relevant discipline, such as epidemiology, public health or statistics.
Extensive experience of managing projects and developing databases, with
highly developed statistical analysis skills, including the use of
statistical software packages (e.g. SPSS, S-PLUS) is required. Excellent
organisational and communication skills and an ability to prepare
manuscripts for publication are essential.
