JOB: Statistician Primary Care databases

Hours: Full time for 3 years (fixed term contract)
Grade/Salary: Research Associate Grade 7 (29,238 - 33,561 incl. London
allowance) depending on experience.

Summary
Applications are invited from candidates with a MSc degree in Statistics,
Epidemiology, Demography or other research based post-graduate
qualification, including individuals just completing their degree. The
post holder will join a team of researchers working collaboratively on
studies derived from large clinical databases. The main purpose of the
post is to facilitate and support development and execution of analysis
protocols using these databases. The main duties of the post involve
analysis of data from databases such as the General Practice Research
Database (GPRD) and The Health Improvement Network (THIN). The post holder
will be expected to pursue a primary care research area in mental health,
infectious diseases, or cardiovascular diseases, or in methodological
issues related to work with primary care databases and to contribute to
undergraduate medical teaching in the Evaluation of Evidence course, up to
6 sessions per year. The post holder will also work closely with the
fully registered UK Clinical Research Collaboration Clinical Trial Unit
(PRIMENT) which has been recently established between the MRC General
Practice Research Framework and UCL Primary Care & Mental Health.
Applicants should be able to work independently, but in close liaison with
other members of a team. Knowledge of study designs and statistical
methods for epidemiological research is a priority for this post, as is
experience with providing statistical/epidemiological support for medical
research, and evidence of having research published in peer-reviewed
academic journals. Support would be available to undertake suitable PhD
study.
