LONDON SCHOOL OF HYGIENE & TROPICAL MEDICINE
DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND POPULATION HEALTH
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Medical Statistics and Epidemiology in
the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit (Ref: PMCWN )
The Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit is a
leading international group working on the
epidemiology and control of infectious diseases.
We have a vacancy for a medical statistician to
work on the design and analysis of research
studies on malaria for the ACT Consortium, a
network of institutions in Africa, Asia, Europe
and the USA co-ordinating a research programme to
identify how best to improve access to
antimalarial treatment in Africa and Asia.
The person appointed will have overall
responsibility for statistical aspects of the
consortium’s work, contributing to the design and
organisation of new field studies, the
statistical analysis of results and the
preparation of research findings for publication.
Based in London, periodic visits to field sites
in developing countries will be necessary. The
successful candidate will also contribute to the
School’s postgraduate teaching programme, and
will be encouraged to pursue methodological
research arising from the Consortium’s activities.
Applicants should have a postgraduate
qualification in statistics and several years
experience of working as a medical statistician,
preferably in an epidemiological context. The
ability to work both independently and as a
member of a multidisciplinary scientific team is
essential. Experience of working in developing countries would be an advantage.
The appointment will be until November 2012, with
a possibility of an extension, and will be made
on the School’s Senior Lecturer or Lecturer
scales (£39,149 to £54,386) depending on qualifications and experience.
