The Department of Languages & Intercultural Studies (LINCS) at Heriot-
Watt enjoys an excellent reputation as a pioneer in the provision of
professionally-orientated language degrees and is one of the very few
centres in the UK, and the only one in Scotland, for the study of
translation and interpreting.
You should have a PhD and an established international research
interest and record in an area of relevance to the LINCS Department,
preferably related to Translation Studies, in order to make a
substantial contribution to the work of the research Centre for
Translation and Interpreting Studies in Scotland (CTISS).
You will have teaching and supervision experience in relevant fields at
both postgraduate and undergraduate levels and demonstrate a strong
commitment to innovative methods of language teaching. Depending on
prior experience, you will contribute to the teaching of general or
specialised language skills such as translating, interpreting, language
for business and area studies. In addition, you will take an
appropriate share of administrative duties.
As you will be required to teach translation/interpreting from English
into German, you must have a native or near native command of German
and native or near native command of English. A high level of
proficiency in another LINCS language would be an advantage.
