Dear colleagues,
the following situation: I have two session, first encoding, second retrieval. Both the encoding as well as the retrieval experiment are modeled as a block design, with 5 phases ON (encoding and retrieval, respectively) and OFF (baseline).
Between both sessions the subjects stay in the scanner, do not move, but rest for about 2 minutes. The scaner stops at this time.
What happens when I model the experiment just as one session, with the condition 1 = encoding, condtion 2 = retrieval (as I have done it in a first step). For instance, the regressor for the encoding part models ON OFF ON OFF ... , but also OFF during the retrieval part. Do I increase the residual variance unnecessarily since I did not model two separate sessions?
Best wishes,
Henrike
