I have to say I’m quite intrigued by this line of research which tries to
rank streets according to some topological measures.
Have you tried to compare the rankings you obtain with Teleatlas or Ordnance
Survey data? Teleatlas data assigns a road class to each segment which
classifies roads from “Local Road of Minor Importance” to “Motorway, Freeway
or Other Major Road” (there's 9 categories).
So the obvious question (since you mention traffic flows) is how do these
rankings which you find compare with the known classes assigned to roads on
the basis of the real traffic which flows on those?
