Research Assistant opportunity:

‘Making Things Better' – an ergonomics exhibition

18 month fixed-term appointment

‘Making Things Better’ is an exhibition on ergonomics which will run from
late summer 2009. It will kick-off at the prestigious Design Museum in
London, before moving on to other key science centres in the UK.

The exhibition is aimed at enhancing the appreciation of ergonomics in
society for both researchers and the general public. We plan to:
- Find out current perceptions of ergonomics from inside and outside the
field
- Develop an exhibition to engage with and enthuse the public about
ergonomics
- Attract a wide audience of researchers, practitioners, media and the
public
- Maximise the impact of the exhibition with complementary activities,
such as seminars and science cafes
- Determine the impact of the exhibition on public understanding of
ergonomics and its potential influence on research and policy

The project will start this summer to give us a 12-month lead-in to the
exhibition. In that time, we will be researching perceptions of
ergonomics, designing and developing the exhibits, and launching a website
to support the exhibition.

We are looking for a Research Assistant to help us with these day-to-day
activities of the project. If you have a degree in design or a closely
related discipline, experience in developing websites, and a broad
knowledge of ergonomics and its relevance to society, you could be ideal
for the post.

We will be working closely with the curators of the Design Museum, as well
as other project partners involved in the development and evaluation of
the exhibition. So you will need to have an ability to work independently
as well as part of a wider team. You will also have good organisational
and project management abilities, as well as good communication skills,
since we will be organising supporting activities to launch and promote
the exhibition. You will preferably hold a driving licence and be willing
to travel to project meetings.

If you feel passionate about communicating science to a wider audience,
and want to be part of this exciting public engagement project, then
please contact Dr Mark Young ([log in to unmask]) for further details.

Salary will be £23,692 per annum plus £2,166 per annum London Weighting.

Application forms must be completed for all positions, for a downloadable
application form and further details of the post, please visit Brunel Web
Pages on www.brunel.ac.uk/about/job quoting vacancy reference number
DCL0351-1 Alternatively for an application form email to the address

Closing date for receipt of applications: 17 June 2008
