Dear colleagues,
First of all apologies for cross-posting, we just wanted to make sure that
we reached all interested parties.
We would like to inform list members of a new research project based at
UCL's School of Library, Archive and Information Studies (with funding from
the Arts and Humanities Research Council) focusing upon the impact of FOI on
records management in public authorities. Our study seeks to address the
fact that much of the published research into the impact of this legislation
in the UK has focused on compliance, rather than the management of and
access to information which underpins compliance.
We have chosen to undertake a detailed study of local authority councils in
the South East of England, including London. Whilst this will not provide
generalizations across the whole public sector, this research will produce
rich data that can be compared with other sectoral studies. We will shortly
be approaching records managers and FOI policy managers in south east local
authorities to participate in a short survey and invite
them to engage in a more in-depth discussion through interview. If you
would like to be involved in this research we would be interested to hear
from you.
For further information about the project please see the website:

If you have any questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact
the researchers, Dr Elizabeth Shepherd ([log in to unmask]) or Dr Alice
Stevenson([log in to unmask]).
With best wishes
Elizabeth Shepherd
