Hello Rae
On the B A Applied Social Studies Programme we have PDP throughtout the 4 years. Year 1 students meet in tutorial groups approx 6 times per semester and have and individual session with their PDP tutor. group sessions focus on issues raised by students along with areas such as study skills and library research in year 1 to placement concerns and eventually areas such as professional identify as they progress through the courwe. we currently operate a paper based system ( looking at eportfolios) where students are asked to assess their knowledge and skills and to identify strategies to assist them in their academic and personal goals.
the interview is to assist students talk about themselves and discuss any issues which may be impacting on their studies. year 2 is similar. year 3 - taking more a employment focus . year 4 students work with year 1 studnets in a mentoring capacity - assisted by pdp tutors. in our course year 1 and 4 are in college for the whole academic year whereas 2 and 3 go out on placement in semester 2.
in year 1, 2 and 3 students are assessed through completion of a reflective essay on their journey through the academic year.
in a recent evaluation students were able to identify that pdp helped them think in broader terms about the course they are studying and to express themselves more effectively especially when speaking about themselves - critical when going out on placement or job hunting!.
please do not hesitate to come back to me if you require further informtion.

Subject: PDP Inductions for students and staff
Dear all
Can you give me some ideas on examples of good practice for student PDP Inductions - I would like to see cases where you have linked in personal tutoring to PDP i.e. getting students to engage in this process! - It would be good to get some examples of good practice.
I look forward to your collective wisdom - Thanks in advance
