Apologies for cross-posting
Dear colleagues
This exciting collaborative (Brook and the OU) PhD opportunity will be
advertised soon in jobs.ac.uk. The closing date is 26th June.
**************Full-time Research Studentships in Health and Social Care
Based in Milton
Keynes******************************************************
The Faculty of Health and Social Care is seeking high-quality applications
from qualified candidates for a full-time, fully funded postgraduate
research studentship commencing October 2008.
Brook, as a leader in the field of sexual health services for young
people, is looking to recruit, in collaboration with The Open University,
a doctoral student to undertake research in one of the following areas:
1.Best practice in peer-led approaches
Brook’s advocacy of young people as peer educators is at the heart of the
organisation’s work. Research centred on the issues related to peer-led
approaches would be welcome.
2.Exploring outreach work
Brook excels in engaging with young people in sexual health promotion in
the places where young people meet and work; exploring the concept
of ‘outreach’ would be useful to the organisation.
3.Becoming research aware
This PhD would explore the idea of ‘research awareness’ within the context
of Brook.
4.‘Good sex’ and self-esteem
Brook is interested in what constitutes ‘good sex’ for a young person, and
the relationship between self-esteem and sexual health outcomes.
The Faculty of Health and Social Care has a lively post-graduate student
group undertaking wide-ranging research both in the UK and
internationally. More details about the entry criteria and research topics
are provided in the further particulars. Supervisors at the OU will be
Professor Rachel Thomson and Dr Lisa Arai.
Closing date for the above studentships is 12 noon on 26 June 2008 with
interviews July 2008
