Forbidden Fruit: The censorship of literature & information for young people

This will be a truly international event with speakers from the UK, the United States, Malta, the Philippines, Greece, South Africa and Canada.
Topics include:

Gay & lesbian fiction
Students' perspectives on book banning
The history of censorship
Mobile censorship
The availability of controversial titles
Pre-censorship
Professional attitudes towards censorship.

There will also be talks by young adult authors:
David Belbin author of more than thirty novels for Young Adults, including Denial, Festival, The Last Virgin and The Beat series
Barry Lyra, whose first young adult novel, The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl, was published to rave reviews. His second young adult novel, Boy Toy, received starred reviews in SLJ, Publishers Weekly, and Kirkus. His third novel, Hero-Type, will hit stores in Fall 2008.
