Simon Inger and Tracy Gardner today announced the launch of Renew Training,
a company set up to serve journal publishers’ industry training needs.
The company will initially offer two training courses and will run both of
them in September and November this year. The courses will then run 3 times
a year thereafter.
Simon Inger said of the launch “it has been apparent for some time that
there is a place in the market for training courses aimed at plugging the
gaps in people’s industry knowledge. The business of scholarly publishing
is extremely complex and we know from experience that if you teach people
the industry fundamentals and clear up some common misunderstandings, they
will be much more effective in their jobs”.
One of the courses will deliver an introduction to the journals industry for
anyone who has come from outside of journals publishing, or anyone within an
operational role such as finance or HR who would benefit from understanding
more about the business environment. The other course offers a business
level grounding in e-journal technology for customer facing staff such as
sales, marketing and customer service as well as new technical staff from
outside the industry and will help them understand some of the issues their
customers face.
Tracy Gardner said “between Simon and I, we have over 30 years experience in
journals publishing and have worked for many of the key types of industry
constituents. We have the experience and knowledge to deliver these
courses and are very excited about our new venture.”
Understanding E-Journal Technology will run in London on 18th September 2008
and Understanding the Journals Industry: a course for non-technologists will
run in Oxford on 25th September 2008.
