Hi
I tried a 1.3 install and seemed to do OK, but then we started again on
a new server and tried a version 2 and I lost the plot somewhere.
Not entirely sure about the request mapper aspect as in whether I still
needed the <location> thing in apache config if I was using the request
mapper. If I do need the location thing and because I'm using a Windows
server do I need to define the full path or an alias. I also suddenly
ran into mention of the htacess file which hadn't come up before and
this seemed to rely very heavily on prior knowledge of what to do with
an htacess file and I have no experience of using Htaccess, we have so
far avoided using it, hence my confusion.
The biggest omission in my opinion is a clearly identifiable list of
what you have to do to make an SP work. A list of the steps involved.
For example I can't see anything that says you must install a web server
supporting SSL (or have a pre requisite list), install shibboleth.
Configure your web server to know where your shibboleth is, or should
that be the other way round or is it both? The information there is
good, but it assumes that you know what you are doing and I clearly
don't, and the more I worry at it the worse it gets - I think it is
called panic!

We have a guide for installing 1.3 for our institute at
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/iss/web/infrastructure/weblogin/shib-httpd.php
Which covers things like key generation, requesting registration with
ukfed, firewall settings etc
The shib2 install is not much different you just need to download the
shib2 rpms instead and install them, the config files for shib2 sps are
different but generally easy to work with.
If you could say what the gaps in the shib2 documnetation are then we
might be able to provide better advice and look into plugging those
gaps.
Cheers
Cal
