IFA Workplace Learning Bursary for the Preparation of Desk-based Assessments
Hosted by: The Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological Trust
Duration: 6 months
Start date: July/August 2008
Salary: £16,536 pro rata
Applications are invited for an HLF-funded IFA Workplace Learning Bursary based at the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust's Swansea office. The post is designed to provide the successful candidate with the knowledge and skills necessary to produce effective desk-based assessments. The Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust is one of four Welsh Archaeological Trusts established in the mid 1970s that works closely with other national, regional and local bodies, to help protect, record and interpret all aspects of the historic environment in Wales. We provide a broad range of archaeological and heritage services in SE Wales - from the maintenance of Historic Environment Records and the provision of archaeological management advice and educational services to field survey, excavation and heritage interpretation. For this post, a structured training plan will be supervised by Dr. Edith Evans, Heritage and Outreach Manager, with support from senior managers.
Applicants should have a degree in archaeology or equivalent, or equivalent archaeological experience. They should already be acquainted with a wide range of monument types of all periods, and should have IT and writing skills which enable them to draw together data from disparate sources into a clear and concise account. A full current driving license would be an advantage.
The post will be split between the Projects Division and the Curatorial Division, to enable the post-holder to appreciate the end-use of desk-based reports. By the end of the placement, the successful applicant will have produced a portfolio of at least three desk-based assessments, covering both construction and environmental/community projects.
Please send a CV with a short statement as to your suitability for the position and details of 2 referees to:
