Place: Room 229

King's Institute for Learning and Teaching (KILT) has been awarded a
small grant by the Higher Education Academy to develop concept mapping
as a tool for teaching at university (Grant No. HEA-GRANTSGEN-EV111).
The grant includes funding for a workshop for the teachers of Classics.
The workshop will introduce the method and review data collected from
the Department of Classics at King's College in the course of
university teaching.
Concept mapping is important for higher education because it allows
teachers to research their students' prior-knowledge and to document
learning empirically. It has also been found to help students develop
their understanding of the subject. This can be done even among very
large classes and has little impact on overall teaching time. At
King's College we have used the approach as part of our programme of
academic development and the data we will present will show how
various university lecturers now use concept mapping to support their
teaching.
The workshop is offered in partnership with the Subject Centre for
History, Classics and Archaeology and will be held at King's College
London.
The workshops are free of charge, but numbers are limited. To reserve
a place or to request further information, please contact Alicia King
