EU puts European emergency number 112 on the map before the summer
holidays (3 June 2008)The European Commission today stepped up its
efforts to promote the use of the charge-free European emergency number
112 in the EU. As of today, the new website ec.europa.eu/112 will tell
citizens how to use 112 and what to expect from it, particularly when
they travel within the EU. It also shows how 112 functions in each
Member State: how quickly calls are answered and in which languages.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
First Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Joint Programme call for proposals
is published
(Deadline: 21/08/2008) Objective of the Call is to launch European
collaborative projects providing innovative ICT based solutions for
elderly persons with identified risk factors and/or chronic conditions.
The Call promotes the creation of new solutions with a holistic approach
to prevention, management, support services and the social and
socio-economic environment related to chronic conditions. The AAL Joint
Programme calls for proposals with a clear European dimension, with high
relevance and with maximal impact on progress in the fields described in
the topic definition.

18 September 2008 - 19 September 2008 Norfolk, Virginia, United States
of AmericaThe event aims to bring together researchers, users, policy
makers and business leaders. Two of the primary goals of this event are
to promote networking for stronger trans-Atlantic R&D cooperation, with
emphasis on methodologies for assessing the comparative effectiveness of
personalised health technologies; and to enable interaction between
potential business partners in order to review commercial opportunities.
In particular, homecare agencies and industry in the US will be invited
to interact with European participants based on tailored preferences and

to help set up focused meetings.
