I'm sending this mail on behalf of Ger Roelen, head IT & education of
the sector Care and welfare.
Colleagues,
In the European community funds are available for visiting schools and
universities in other countries and vice versa. It is named: Leonardo,
information to be found at
http://ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/llp/leonardo/index_en.html
I am looking for schools or universities that are interested in IT and
education. I'll try to describe what kind of knowledge I am looking for.
In the Netherlands we have this peculiar situation that IT in education,
and especially in the vocational education, is separated in two
different worlds. On one side there are all IT related things concerning
the administrative process of the school, and on the other side there
are all education related IT 'things'. When the board of directors is
talking about an IT plan for the school, it's always about the
administrative process and about the network and so on related business.
When it concerns our electronic learning environment, we are having
great difficulties to get this on the IT agenda. I presume that the main
reason for this problem is that we have a well equipped IT department,
but there is no link what so ever with our primarily business,
education. We always have to fight our way in. I have seen several
examples in schools and universities in other countries, for example in
the UK that do not have this problem. Therefore, what I am interested in
is how IT departments and education work together, and if there really
is such a difference between 'my' situation and yours.
If you think you can share information on the subject, I would be
interested in visiting your school the end of autumn. The conditions for
funding includes a working visit of five days (maybe divided over more
than one school or university) and a sixth 'cultural' day. A return
visit is not obliged, but it is of course always possible. Further
information can be found on the website, named above.
