Ken was Chairman of the Society of Archivists when I became Hon. Assistant
Secretary, many many moons ago. Within a few weeks, I'd made a mistake
over something-can't remember what-and confessed all to Amanda Arrowsmith,
then Secretary of the Society. She was great, of course, and very
reassuring. Two hours later, Ken phoned me. He was one of those people
everyone was in awe of, and I was very apprehensive when I answered the
phone. No need, of course, as within seconds I was helpless with laughter
as he regaled me with tales of all the mistakes he'd made when Asst.
Secretary (you'll have to wait for my memoires!). Such a kind man, to take
time out of his day to phone and reassure a very inexperienced colleague.
It's such a very sad loss
